Psalm 24

Grand Canyon

Psalm 24 is all about the glory of God. Verses 1-6 begin with a reminder of the Lord’s holiness.

The King of Glory Entering Zion.

A Psalm of David.

The earth is the Lord’s, and all it contains,
The world, and those who live in it.
For He has founded it upon the seas
And established it upon the rivers.
Who may ascend onto the hill of the Lord?
And who may stand in His holy place?
One who has clean hands and a pure heart,
Who has not lifted up his soul to deceit
And has not sworn deceitfully.
He will receive a blessing from the Lord
And righteousness from the God of his salvation.
This is the generation of those who seek Him,
Who seek Your face—even Jacob. Selah

Our God is awesome and His creation is beautiful. We are called to seek purity and to live lives that honor Him.

Lift up your heads, you gates,
And be lifted up, you ancient doors,
That the King of glory may come in!
Who is the King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty,
The Lord mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, you gates,
And lift them up, you ancient doors,
That the King of glory may come in!
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord of armies,
He is the King of glory. Selah

David describes a welcome for the Lord in verses 7-10. Verse 7a, “Lift up your heads, you gates…” is remnant of the classic hymn, “I will enter His gates” (Hymnal.net, “I will enter His gates,” https://www.hymnal.net/en/hymn/ns/259). The short song states:

“I will enter His gates with thanksgiving in my heart;
I will enter His courts with praise.”

The psalm ends with a reminder that He is the King of glory; mighty and all-powerful – worthy of our worship.

Dear Lord, please let us be filled with praise for You this week. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Have a wonderful week!
