Personally, I didn’t necessarily agree with everything the author says about social media. She discusses how to manage your profiles in conjunction with your personal/business life, and her decision that it’s best to let people decide for themselves makes sense – but there are other major studies which have shown the health risks of constant technology use. It all comes down to personal opinion.
Being Present: Commanding Attention at Work (and at Home) by Managing Your Social Presence by Jeanine W. Turner
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I give this book five stars because it was thorough, but I didn’t really agree with its conclusions. Jeanine W. Turner talks about how to manage your social presence in the workplace. I did not agree with all of her determinations, but some are interesting.

“You basically have three possible choices when facing mismatch: give in to your communicator’s choice, ignore or overlook their choice, or actively discuss the mismatch. Let’s discuss each of these options so you can make a more informed decision about the implications of your choice.“
– The “choice” here is whether to ban cell phones or allow people to decide for themselves (in regards to business meetings, educational settings or family events).
