Psalm 14

This psalm is another good one to turn to when you’re facing extreme hardship (or any challenge, really).

Prayer for Help in Trouble.

For the music director. A Psalm of David.

How long, Lord? Will You forget me forever?
How long will You hide Your face from me?
How long am I to feel anxious in my soul,
With grief in my heart all the day?
How long will my enemy be exalted over me?

In these first couple of verses, David is calling out to the Lord about how he feels forgotten. All of us have moments, at least, when we feel like we’re totally alone. It can even happen if you’re in the middle of a crowd and you don’t know anyone. If this is you, Christ is waiting to hear from you.

Consider and answer me, O Lord my God;
Enlighten my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death,
And my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,”
And my adversaries will rejoice when I am shaken.

God can give you strength if you feel exhausted. You may feel like there is no where else to go. It is helpful to talk with a friend, family member or counselor if you are comfortable; but if you feel it’s too personal, God isn’t a fan of gossip.

There are other quality passages, but Proverbs 18:7-9 says:

A fool’s mouth is his ruin,
And his lips are the snare of his soul.
The words of a gossiper are like dainty morsels,
And they go down into the innermost parts of the body.
He also who is lax in his work
Is a brother to him who destroys.

1 Timothy 3:11 speaks directly to women.

Women must likewise be dignified, not malicious gossips, but temperate, faithful in all things.

Rather than gossiping, we can trust in Him to take care of us, as verses 5-6 of the psalm indicate.

But I have trusted in Your faithfulness;
My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.
I will sing to the Lord,
Because He has looked after me.

You can trust Him. He will protect you and see to what is best for you. You may feel intimidated or like life is impossible, but Jesus is there for you. He’ll hear you if you call out to Him. If you feel uncomfortable praying, here is something I wrote that you can follow. Feel free to alter it to your own circumstances. Feel free to add detail to your prayers. If you believe in Jesus, He will hear you.

Dear Jesus, be with me today and help me face my challenges today. Amen.

Have a wonderful week!
