I found this to be a useful quick read with plenty of tips that can be immediately put into practice in the workplace…
Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff … and It’s All Small Stuff: Simple Ways to Keep the Little Things From Taking Over Your Life by Richard Carlson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It’s chock full of practical and helpful career advice for when you’re feeling stressed or overworked.
“Any potential frustration, however, can be prevented by including a lack of insistence upon your desired result. In other words, it’s terrific, courageous and important to ask for what you want, but if you’re attached to the outcome, you could be in for a long and ongoing series of disappointments in your life. You’ll only be happy when you get exactly what you want and when life accommodates you with your preferences. Once you detach from the outcome however, you’ll win either way. You’ll either get what you want-or you’ll be OK with the fact that you didn’t…” – p.252
“…be sure to ask for what you want, but don’t insist on getting it.” – p.254
