Do you wish you knew more about sewing? This is a book for you. When I started sewing, one of my goals was to be able to sew my own clothing. It was a skill I wanted to develop. Sometimes, I’ve noticed that patterns just didn’t fit quite right. The sizing was supposed to work for me according to the pattern measurements, but things just didn’t quite work out. I didn’t realize that most patterns are made for women who are 5’6″ with an average bust. If you are slim or curvy, have a small or large seat, an unusually straight back, high or low bust, or protruding shoulder blades a pattern may not fit you without alterations (see p. 10).
Perhaps you sew for yourself, your spouse or children and want to know more about how to make quality clothing.
This book gives superb and applicable advice on how to start making small pattern alterations to help the clothing you make fit you better.
Every Sewer’s Guide to the Perfect Fit: Customizing Your Patterns for a Sensational Look by Mary Morris
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
As a beginner sewer, I found this book to be extremely informative. Sometimes I have faced issues getting a pattern to fit. Now, I have solutions! I definitely plan to use the strategies I read about to improve my sewing skills – and my wardrobe. This book provides excellent advice for sewers beginning to sew clothing, but feeling like they need modifications. Adaptations are provided for individuals who are small-busted, full-busted, who have long legs or who wear plus sizes.
Five stars!
