Seeking Peace in… Mid-August Heat.

We’ve had some warm and cooler times recently. Life is busy as summer has ended. Some areas are battling COVID still, and some are celebrating forgotten freedoms. Jesus can bring you contentment whichever situation you are in.

There are times of humor though. Just a moment ago, for example, a friend called. While we were talking, I saw a small sparrow land on the potted tomato plant in front of my house. The bird was small, but the branch on my tomato plant is still green at the top of the plant where the sparrow landed (the apex?) and it’s not that thick. It was gently waving in the wind, and the small sparrow did not remain perched on the plant for too long; but it still made me smile.

It can be helpful to find humor in small moments. This has helped me find moments of delight in difficult times.

One verse that is comforting for me is Paul’s second letter to Corinth. This isn’t the kind of hardship we face with traumatic brain injury, but it is

Second Corinthians 1:3-7 (NASB) says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.  For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ.  But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; or if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which is effective in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer; and our hope for you is firmly grounded, knowing that as you are partners in our sufferings, so also you are in our comfort.”
