Finding Praise in Tremulous Times

Grand Canyon Landscape

Today I want to share Psalm 96. It is a short and happy psalm that praises the Lord and His splendor. This is something we could all use in these tremulous times.

Sing a new song to the Lord;
sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to Yahweh, praise His name;
proclaim His salvation from day to day.
Declare His glory among the nations,
His wonderful works among all peoples.

For the Lord is great and is highly praised;
He is feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the peoples are idols,
but the Lord made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are before Him;
strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.

Ascribe to the Lord, you families of the peoples,
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
Ascribe to Yahweh the glory of His name;
bring an offering and enter His courts.
Worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness;
tremble before Him, all the earth.

Say among the nations: “The Lord reigns.
The world is firmly established; it cannot be shaken.
He judges the peoples fairly.”
Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice;
let the sea and all that fills it resound.
Let the fields and everything in them exult.
Then all the trees of the forest will shout for joy
before the Lord, for He is coming—
for He is coming to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness
and the peoples with His faithfulness.

You may be thinking – “There’s nothing to be happy about” or “My life is full of difficulties”. This may be true, but it’s important to search for joy in the Lord.Even in the hardest times, we still have His Word to encourage us. Having a brain injury myself, memorizing verses is not an easy feat. I do have a recollection of some I had memorized before my brain injury though. My personal strategy is to read the Bible cover to cover with a chapter per day. Repetition ingrains it in my mind despite the damage.

It has been important for me to dwell on these verses of praise in our current political and cultural climate. It is helpful for me to have strains of happiness and joy to grasp onto.

On a different note, I also want to let you know that we are investigating releasing What Can I Do When I Have a Traumatic Brain Injury on Smashwords, which would make it available through Kindle, Apple, and various online readers. At least, that is the goal.

We will be releasing a new PDF on September 1st! It is titled “Learning the Beauty of Humility With Horses”. It will be available on our website and hopefully Smashwords. I am investigating making it available for presale, but I am still working out the details.
